31 17 August
Northumbria Police asked the Team Leader to help a person who had taken ill, with breathing difficulties, whilst out walking with a group in the Simonside Hills. Team members, together with NoTSRT, attended and assisted the ambulance crews at the casualty site. The North East Air Ambulance was also at the casualty site and assisted in this rescue. A search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer took the casualty to hospital for urgent medical treatment. However, he was pronounced deceased on arrival at hospital. Read more>>
32 24 August
Two incidents occurred today, within quick succession. The ambulance service asked, through Northumbria Police, for the Team's assistance. Whilst setting up targets for a local archery club a male member fell down a ravine, sustaining suspected fractured ribs. Together with the Fire and Rescue service and ambulance crew, Team members extracted the casualty from the ravine to an awaiting air ambulance.
33 24 August
Following the above incident, the ambulance service requested the Team's assistance in evacuating, by stretcher, a female walker. Whilst participating in an organised walk, the lady tripped into a rabbit hole, sustaining a suspected fractured ankle. Team members evacuated the person some distance to an awaiting ambulance.
34 5 Sept.
The Team was called by the Northumbria Police to attend and incident at Sinderhope in the Allendale area of Northumberland to search for a grouse beater who had become lost and had sustained an injury to his lower leg. The initial call to Northumbria Police came from the injured person who gave more information about his current location. As rescue teams were proceeding to the location, A local game keeper collected the injured man and transported him to a waiting ambulance. The Team was stood down.
35 6 Sept
The Team was diverted from a rescue cover at Kielder Castle to Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall to assist the ambulance service in the evacuation of a male who had suffered a lower leg injury. On arrival, Team members worked with the ambulance service to evacuate the casualty by stretcher some distance to the waiting ambulance and then onward to hospital.
36 6 Sept
During Saturday 6 September and Sunday 7 September the Team was requested to assist local authorities and front line emergency services in the evacuation of residents from flood hit areas of Morpeth, Northumberland. Team members were deployed to man two helicopter landing sites and provided medical cover at two refuge centres. Later, Team members were tasked to transfer and evacuate residents from a care home in Cramlington and also assisted in the transportation of personnel around the Morpeth area using the Team's two 4x4 ambulances. In total more than 400 residents were evacuated and more than 1000 properties affected by the flood water. The Team was stood down at 0345 Sunday.
37 6 Sept
Whilst en-route to assist with flood victims ( see above ) Team members were tasked to attend potential high risk vulnerable flood victims at an address in the Ponteland, Northumberland. The Team Leader requested a search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer to assist, whilst Team members assessed the situation on-scene. Following discussions with those directly affected, the helicopter was re-tasked.
38 6 Sept.
Whilst dealing with evacuations in Morpeth (see above), Team members were requested to assist three police officers and some members of the public who had become stranded between two landslips on a road near Powburn, in Northumberland. A 4 x 4 ambulance landrover was dispatched from the floods in Morpeth but was stood down en-route as Team members, closer to the location had evacuated all the stranded people.
39 7 Sept
The Team leader received a request from Northumbria Police for assistance with two walkers in distress on the Pennine Way in the Cheviot Hills. A search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer was requested to rendevous with Team members to ensure a rapid response considering the level of flooding that had occurred across Northumberland. Additional team members travelled by 4 x 4 landrover ambulances to the Upper Coquet Valley. The helicopter team located the walkers on the border ridge and evacuated one casualty to the helicopter by stretcher. The walkers were flown directly to hospital with the rescue team.
40 14 Sept
Whilst Team members were in attendance at the Kielder Triathlon, they were called to assist a competitor with a suspected broken collar bone, sustained on the bike ride through the forest. The injured person was dealt with at the scene by team members and then evacuated back to Kielder village in a Team Land Rover ambulance to be handed over to a county ambulance for transport to Borders Hospital at Melrose.
Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team are affiliated to "Mountain Rescue - England and Wales" and a registered charity. We provide a Search and Mountain Rescue service throughout the Northumbria Police Force area and beyond primarily for the Police but also for the other emergency services. All Team members are volunteers and we rely on monies raised by ourselves as a registered charity to run the Team.
