27 and 28 March |
Northumbria Police asked the NNPMRT team leader for assistance in an on going incident pertaining to a missing person
from psychiatric hospital and who was known to be dangerous and violent. The Team's response was to send a search
management team, together with the Team Leader from NoTSRT, to give search management
advice. After careful risk assessment, due to the nature of the missing person, it was decided a response at this time
not necessary, and too dangerous to our Team members, however if more evidence comes available, a response could be
considered at a later date.
NNPMRT informed all parties on Friday that we were not available on Saturday 29 March and we could not
assist in a search, as a find may put NNPMRT members at risk. A search was conducted by NoTSRT. The missing person was located on the Saturday
morning in Derbyshire.

The Team leader was contacted Northumbria Police making us aware of missing persons in
Langleeford area of the Harthope Valley in the Cheviot Hills. A group of walkers had gone out for the day. Unfortunately, one had an accident, a suspected broken arm, who was transported
by locals to Wooler. The rest continued on their walk. At 1730, the police were contacted and informed that some walkers were
missing. After preliminary checks were made by the police, we were contacted at 2030 hours and a full Team callout initiated. With the weather being very wintry, the hours of daylight remaining limited and the nature of the terrain to be searched arduous, we requested the assistance of NoTSRT and asked if Borders SRT to be placed on standby.
In addition, due to the very large search area a search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer was also requested.
Sometime later, the search and rescue helicopter located the missing persons and air lifted them back to Langleeford, where
an ambulance crew examined the missing persons, who were found to be perfectly fit and well. The rescue teams were stood down. Read more >>
